Cheers to strolling through a summer wonderland – with a platter of oysters in hand!

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
Sunburn sting, ice blocks glistening
The beautiful sight of barbies alight,
strolling through a Summer wonderland….

christmas with oysters

While the rest of the world might be dreaming of snowflakes and sleigh rides, here in New Zealand, we’re firing up the barbecue, popping the bubbly, and savouring the sunshine. And what better way to embrace the magic of a Kiwi Christmas than with fresh, briny Mahurangi oysters?

Picture it: a platter of oysters on ice, their salty tang perfectly paired with a chilled glass of crisp white wine. A gentle summer breeze, the sizzle of the barbie mingles with the sound of your uncle snoring. It’s these moments – messy, joyous and utterly delicious – that define a true Aotearoa Christmas.

We’re spreading the Christmas cheer with a tasty 15% discount on our oysters until December 10th or we run out of oysters! Not a treat to miss!

We will deliver our oysters wherever you want in New Zealand. Just let us know your preferred delivery date between December 19th and 23rd and we’ll make it happen!

FRESH OYSTERS for Christmas day

Oysters: The making of a fine Christmas feast

Much like pavlova, sauvignon blanc in the sunshine, and pineapples on ham, oysters are carving out their place in a Kiwi summer Christmas. Serve them raw with a squeeze of lemon, or our delicious chardonnay vinegar, top with a mignonette, or from the barbecue with garlic butter. Oysters are super versatile and they bring a touch of elegance to any backyard spread. They’re light, refreshing, and oh-so-easy to enjoy outdoors. You don’t even need a knife and fork: just a flick of the wrist and a good slurp.

Oysters feel like a celebration. They transform a meal into an occasion.

As the day unfolds, Christmas here isn’t about fireplaces and mulled wine; it’s about dodging prickles, the backyard cricket match, the mozzie spray being passed around, and laughter long after the pav has been polished off. Oh, and oysters.

A tradition worth celebrating

Oysters at Christmas might sound like a fairly modern essential, but they have long been a delicacy at grand holiday banquets. Their roots in Christmas feasting stretch back to the snowy winters of Europe. Oysters were abundant in colder coastal regions. Families would gather around tables adorned with oysters. On Christmas Eve, households right across the Southeast U.S serve up oyster stew in a tradition harking back to the pilgrims. Irish immigrants whose rigorous Catholic diets included abstaining from eating meat on Christmas Eve had the good sense to replace the dried ling in their Christmas fish stew with oysters.

And now, oysters have found a natural home in our summer celebrations

Oysters are as much about togetherness as they are about taste. So, this Christmas, why not embrace the briny brilliance of Mahurangi oysters? Whether you’re slurping them straight from the shell in the midday sun or serving them as an elegant entrée, oysters will put you in mind of old Christmas traditions as well as the ones yet to be made with your whanau.
